At the moment, Docs live either: 1. In an organised place in the Hierarchy, or 2. In one giant list in Docs home.
The giant list in Docs home is useless. It's far too messy to have one long list, and it's cumbersome to add tags and then filter by tags. It's also hard to know what tags to use for what Doc.
I just want a normal folder structure under Docs home, where folders mimic the Hierarchy. I.e., folders are automatically created and show docs in the same place that they are in the hierarchy.
Then you can ALSO have a list of loose Docs that don't live anywhere.
THEN, you can ALSO use Tags to visualise Docs in a different way, if you want. So you could add tags to Docs and view them grouped by Tags.
This would allow you to see your Docs in a sensible organised manner (in folders based on hierarchy) or in a dynamic way (with tags).
But, right now, it's just an absolute mess.
I do not use Docs home because it's too messy. And I do not like to use ClickUp Docs in general because Docs get lost (the problem of remembering where they are in the hierarchy).
This way of organising (using folders based on the hierarchy AND using tags, and being able to visualise them how we want) would fix this.
Hope that helps!

Oh, and in the Overview page for a location, it would be helpful to have a way to view the list of Docs in the Docs widget in a way that we want, rather than just in a long list. E.g., organised by location, etc.
The idea being to see a list of our Docs in a location, but more organised.
Guy Mannerings
One more thing - It would be useful to have a "Docs" view in any location, where we can see a list/hierarchy-ordered list of all Docs under that location.

Hi Docs users! We are working on enhancing your ability to organize Docs inside of ClickUp, and we'd appreciate additional feedback to guide these improvements. Could you please take this 2-min survey to help us out? Thank you!
Nicole Warner
Brent The second-to-last question doesn't seem to have a text field to fill in; I can't type anything in to tell you more about how I use Docs. If there is a text field, I can't see it bc of the black background.
Brent
Hi Nicole Warner, thank you for attempting the survey. There should be a text field on that question. It appears on my end when using Chrome/Firefox/Safari, and we've received submissions since I posted the survey so it seems to be working for others.
Could you please try again, and perhaps try using another browser? Thank you!

Brent I need to send docs to clients but it's annoying that they have to create an account to do so. The Clickup interface can be overwhelming and complicated to a non-native user. Furthermore all the extra buttons are unnecessary for them to view or use.
A fix to this is if you could add a password to the "public view" toggle which will allow them to view the doc without creating an account.
THIS would be really useful!
This could also be very useful for the current issue of ALL attachments being public view currently. Adding a password to the public doc/attachment.
Nicole Warner
Brent I tried it again today and it showed up this time in the same browser. I turned in my survey answers. Thank you for your response and have a good one.

+1 to this idea, being able to favorite documents without them being associated with the favorites bar. In the documents home, there is a "favorites" section, why can't we add documents to a favorites without it also being in the other menu ;)
I use the favorites to jump to specific lists of tasks, or reports. It'd be awesome to have docs be separate.
or if it doesn't make sense here, have the favorites bar be able to manually hide items even though its a favorite but that doesn't make the most sense to me, unless all other views had the same organization structure as the documents home beta does!

To improve ClickUp Docs organization, I propose introducing a Home Doc and sidebar tags for better organization and navigation. When a new doc is created, a Home Doc will be automatically generated as a central hub. This Home Doc will act as the default landing page and can be customized with widgets, links, and media. Multiple sub-docs can be organized within the Home Doc, and the left sidebar will display a hierarchical view for easy navigation. Additionally, tags will be shown next to document names in the left sidebar for quick identification and organization. These features will streamline document management, enhance customization, and improve overall efficiency.

Hi everyone!
Thank you for your feedback regarding Docs Organization. We’re actively reviewing all the comments and suggestions you’ve shared in this post.
We appreciate your continued feedback!

Hi Brent thank you for checking in on this!
For our company we're hoping for Folder doc type option.
We have our overall ClickUp structure set up as:
Space = Active Clients
Folder = Client Name
Tasklists = Service types
Within each Folder, each client has a doc that we input overall account details and notes in.
Within each Tasklist, each service has a doc for individual teams to document notes for specific services as needed
--
Right now the ClickUp doc organization is not ideal.
There is a "location" column in docs --
One thing that could happen is all docs would collpase under those locations and we could expand the location and be shown all relevant docs we organized under each location.
Or a separate idea, make it so we can set up folders in the docs area so that we can organize and move docs around as needed.

Coming from a print background I feel very
VERY
strongly about this, but, “Sub Pages”? Yeah, not a real thing. I find it mildly infuriating because, while you call them “pages” there aren’t actually such things as “pages” in ClickUp. There are “typing sections” where you can type as much as you want. And then… “sub-typing sections”(?) where you can also type as much as you want. If you go to print or export though, how many actual
pages will it be? WHO KNOWS! I am extremely adamant that the terms “pages” and “sub Pages” get a complete re-think. Because that’s
actually
your organizational structure right there. It's already done. I think what happened is, in the early days someone had this "brilliant
" idea: We'll make the document filing system and the documents THE SAME THING!!!
Well... imagine if you will, that your bookshelf... was your book! WHAT IF!!!! your filing cabinet
.... WAS YOUR FILES!!!! *HOW AWESOME WOULD THAT BE?!?!?!?!?! Like........ how high... are you.. bro?
Brent (no, I don't think you are the one who came up with that insane idea).
Here's an easy, easy, EASY, easy way, to fix it all, and make everybody happy instantly.
ClickUp docs are also the ClickUp Doc Filing System. Makes perfect sense, right?
No.
It does not.
Currently we have
Doc (type lots of stuff)
Page (type lots of stuff)
Subpage (type lots of stuff)
Subpage (type lots of stuff)
etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. etc.
What we need (simply rename)
Doc Folder
Doc (set up page size, portrait or landscape, bleed, margin... OK I'm getting a little ambitious).
*page (8.5x11, 8.5x14, 11x17)
Section
*page (8.5x11, 8.5x14, 11x17)
*page (8.5x11, 8.5x14, 11x17)
*page (8.5x11, 8.5x14, 11x17)
Subsection
*page (8.5x11, 8.5x14, 11x17)
*page (8.5x11, 8.5x14, 11x17)
*page (8.5x11, 8.5x14, 11x17)
Doc Subfolder
Doc
*page (8.5x11, 8.5x14, 11x17)
Section
*page (8.5x11, 8.5x14, 11x17)
*page (8.5x11, 8.5x14, 11x17)
*page (8.5x11, 8.5x14, 11x17)
Subsection
*page (8.5x11, 8.5x14, 11x17)
*page (8.5x11, 8.5x14, 11x17)
*page (8.5x11, 8.5x14, 11x17)
Hopefully you are beginning to get the picture, but the idea is that you simply change the name of "Doc" to.... "Doc Folder". Within that "Doc Folder", one would then create an actual doc (currently a "Page" (really just an infinite typing field)). I'm thinking this first Doc Page could be like this area where you set up your Doc with things like page size, format, creating your sections, and other settings, and maybe make it configurable as a cover page too.
Since there is actually no such thing as a "Sub Page", we could have true "Sections". In "Sections" we could edit the headers, footers, PAGE(!!) numbering options etc. These WOULD NOT be totally separate new documents! Because that would make no sense! They would be inline with the document, but simply carry different, customizable characteristics. Side note - you guys have a pretty good opportunity to do sectioning better than anyone here, just saying.
Then each document would have however many... "Pages". Like the all-time-go-to, 8.5x11! Also the very official, 8.5x14. The oh-so-extra 11x17! When we run out of room on one of those PAGES(!!) a new PAGE(!!) would then be created for text to be entered into. Cutting-edge ideas, I know. Then we could export these docs to printable .pdfs with https://clickup.canny.io/feature-requests/p/print-embedded-lists-in-docs!!!!!!!
Look, you guys at ClickUp are real smart, don't get me wrong. I know how hard it is to do all the stuff you're doing. But you are a victim of your own industry here. Someone on Docs Team needs to go take a page layout course at SanDiego State and just learn the basics of print production. Or hell, just crack open Apple Pages and try and print out a sub page.

Hi Brent Thanks for putting this forward. My comments are here about Document Management for the enterprise or business.
It would be very helpful to be able to quickly edit, delete, sort, and organize documents by folder. In a company with over 200 documents, individually organizing everything is time-consuming.
Plus, the capability to share a folder with selected users, teams, or in public.

Brent Everything has already probably already been suggested, so it may be more useful to do a form survey to let users vote and opine on the possible variations.
Docs/pages should have sub-docs/pages. These sub-docs/pages should have the option to be expandable in the main menu tree. You should be able to move docs/pages into other docs/pages as sub-docs/pages.
Also, allow docs/pages to be associated/linked in multiple places, similar to tasks that can belong to multiple lists. I have a doc attached to a task but is a sub-doc/page of another doc/page that is not attached to the task. You can also "link" a doc/page in another doc/page as a sub-doc/page so it appears in the menu hierarchy but does not move its parent location.
Finally, functionality to create databases (lists) of docs/pages) that are all using the same template. The list/template has custom fields. This database/list of docs/pages can then be sorted, filters, etc. on the custom fields.
Basically, same as you can do with N****n 😉

Tab & space formatting didn't carry over into Canny - sorry.

Hi everyone,
Thank you for sharing your feedback on how we can improve Docs organization within ClickUp. We appreciate your insights and suggestions which helps us enhance your experience.
We're reviewing all of your feedback and have noted several common requests:
Doc Folders for Organization: Many of you mentioned the need for a folder structure within the Docs Hub to organize and manage your documents more efficiently. This includes the ability to collapse docs under their respective locations and set up folders for better navigation.
Terminology and Structure: Suggestions to rename "Doc" to "Doc Folder" and introduce true sections with configurable settings, editable headers, footers, and page numbering for a more intuitive structure.
Enterprise Document Management: Emphasis on the need for quick editing, deleting, sorting, and organizing documents by folder to support large-scale document management. Also, the ability to share folders with selected users, teams, or publicly is highly requested.
Also called out, we’re currently working to display pages and subpages in the main left sidebar inside ClickUp. To provide feedback specific to this initiative, please visit this Canny post: https://clickup.canny.io/feature-requests/p/expand-docs-show-sub-pages-in-sidebar
Thank you for your continued support and insights!

We've updated the status of this request so we can manage and prioritize requests more effectively.

Brent Perhaps clickup should conduct a feedback survey with all its docs 'voters'.

The new Docs Hub is a nightmarish mess, with 4 different cards of completely random docs, with the 4 lists mostly overlapping so eyes just dart around in circles of confusion. (Recent, faves, created by me, all of those = random, especially when each is just 3 docs. Useful would be actual categories I can create, or actual file organization, which we already have if they live in sidebar. The big panel of all docs is even worse — why not at least be allowed to sort by name?)
Please make the docs hub either optional to hide completely or make fully customizable! We already organized all our docs in sidebars back when there was no hub, and we have a lot of docs.
We have to constantly coach people "don't look at the automatic Docs option; don't pin it; don't click More > Docs" which is adding to the ever-expanding list of things we have to tell people to ignore (useless home screen, useless overview tab, custom fields that shouldn't be showing in subtasks or wrong kind of tasks).
There is so much interface clutter to parse now. I do love clickup with all my heart and I understand this is a side effect of being awesome and building so much, but please help!

Is there an update to this? Our team could really use a simple folder structure for Docs (not in the sidebar, but under Docs). I'd love to move our team away from Google Docs, but ClickUp's Doc structure is too complicated, especially as our team grows. What Justin Hunter was offering was simple enough, though a structure similar to Google Doc's organizational flow would be great. Caroline Ginty
