In our quest to find the best solution to this problem, I've got another view (very rough) prototypes for you all to take a look at. 👀
I'm attaching three gifs with the following flows:
- Expanding Doc Folders
- Creating a Doc Folder
- Filtering for Docs Folders Only
Please don't hold back. Let me know what you think! 📣

Patiently awaiting for this feature in the docs view 👀

Caroline Ginty will updates include single page sharing? https://clickup.canny.io/feature-requests/p/ability-to-share-a-specific-page-or-pages-in-a-doc

Caroline Ginty Hey Caroline! I just wondered, since Justin left, has anyone at ClickUp taken the reins on this?
I spent a few hours talking with him over Zoom sharing ideas and going over prototype ideas, and it's a bit frustrating that this work seems to have gone up in smoke.
It would be great if, for example, the work on adding proper folders could be moved forwards.
Thanks for any insights you can give! 👍
Caroline Ginty
Guy Mannerings: I'll flag this for our Docs team, thanks!
Guy Mannerings
Caroline Ginty: Thanks Caroline!

The disconnect with Docs begins with the inability to organize. We need to be able to re-organize information as projects develop, meaning:
- Merging docs
- 'Adding-to' various places (mirroring)
- Managing page > subpage hierarchies intuitively (classic folder trees would be fine)
- Making access intuitive, and bridging the different ways of accessing docs. A simple 'go-to space view' or 'go-to docs homepage view' function would bridge them.
- Basic utility. Turns out I can't even sort Docs based on location or name lol. Who playtests these functions?
Until the basic utility is addressed, I can't reliably keep important information in the Docs platform - I can't be forced to use something that is nailed to the ground like this

Why can this not just be a standard folder structure like Google Drive or Mac? And then the docs can be linked to locations and whatnot in the side bar or set as views across ClickUp?
It seems like an obvious and simple solution that would suit everyone's workflow and not require a re-invention of folders and docs.
My whole company isn't using Docs and is using Google Drive because the folder structure is uncomplicated. Would be great to have them in ClickUp, but I'm not sure if the ClickUp team is overthinking this.
To have to manually add a doc to a Collection or to have Doc Folders be an 'add-on' on top of the documents (meaning it's essentially a tag and not part of the default data structure) are dead-on-arrival for me.
Google tried this for years in Google Drive, telling us that you don't need folders, you can do it by tags, etc. etc. etc. and eventually they realized that the folder structure is not broken and now they're succeeding.
People's minds do not remember the doc to search for, they remember things via hierarchy. They don't remember the content as much as 'where' to find it. That means that if my company has hundreds of documents and we need to search for each one individually, we're just going to fail.

Had an idea about grouping Docs in Docs Home, and not just filtering - feedback.clickup.com/v3-feedback/p/group-docs-by-location-tag

Justin Hunter I'm also appreciating the updates! I want to second the motion for gallery view - very important for those of us who are visually oriented. Also, can we have the option to color code the folders? Visually, it takes a long time for my eyes to sort through the folder titles, and color codes would help tremendously.
I think the "Recent, Favorites, Created by Me" section takes up too much real estate. Perhaps if that section is collapsable, that would help. If we can have the option to pin that section (or save that view of the collapsable menu), that could work.
Thank you!

Docs area is potential power but the inability to filter this information appropriate is a major issue. I've been using Clickup for consulting for ages but want to use it for my doc notes as well.
Biggest challenge is the organising of these on the folder and list tree area in a space as well as the main doc area.
Suggestion - Docs Screen Management of Docs:
Doc area should allow Docs to be allocated to Folders. Docs to be able to be assigned to more than Folder and more than location, to allow for the a Doc to become a knowledge base item. This will help with organisation strategies like Second Brain
Then be able to filter the Doc Screen by Folder folders.
Doc screen should be able to filter docs by Space. Again to see all the docs that have been created in a space.
Likewise to filter by tags.
Also to be able to search the docs by keywords and to bring up any document containing that keyword.
Spaces management of Docs
Instead of adding a Doc each time to the space have a link on each spaces tree which is to a view/page for docs. If there are none in their it just shows as empty else. It offers a similar view as the Doc Screen with various filters. Except its now filter by default down by location. If it has multiple locations it would show
