Different statuses for a task that is in multiple lists

When I add a task to another list, I want the the same task would be with different status in each list. you can see reference from Asana.

We really need this this feature as our different departments have very different statuses and we want task to be able to "flow" with the status which makes sense for the department currently responsible for the task

I really hope that the ability to apply different statuses to a task that lives in multiple lists is coming soon. Our organization has multiple businesses within it (Real Estate, Design, Renovation, etc) that use CU in tandem. Each business needs access to some of the same tasks (which for us are clients as we are using CU as a CRM as well) with up-to-date info for that task as they cross over each business. However, each business has their own process (custom statuses). We don't want to have to duplicate the tasks so that they can have the custom statuses and then move them through each process and merge them together at the end in order for all info to be back under one task. PLEASE PLEASE prioritize this fix.

This needs to be fixed and the idea of having Custom Task Types maintain their own distinct statuses (while extremely helpful) does NOT solve this problem of tasks being unable to track through multiple lists' statuses

What is the point of adding task to list 2 if I am limited to the statuses in list 1? Does anyone have a workaround to suggest?
Matthew Burt
Michele Lax: Yes, there is a workaround, and it works quite well; however, it will require you to abandon statuses unfortunately.
Use drop-down lists. For as many lists you want to track multiple statuses, make as many drop-down lists with all the statuses/colors in the dropdowns ordered accordingly. Add ALL of these newly created drop-down lists to ALL of the Lists where tasks will be "multi-homed". Lastly, you will go into each list (and dashboard) and sort by custom field > respective dropdown for that specific list. Do this for each list, rather than sorting by status. Now you have easily viewable Stages/Steps/Statuses that have nothing to do with the ClickUp version.
The final thing to do, is change the Statuses of ALL of the lists you are multi-homing tasks to be the same exact statuses. So that when you multi-home a task it works with all lists involved.
IMPORTANT: ClickUp currently has problems when lists have different statuses and you are trying to use Relationships or multi-home a task. Because of this, the above solution actually fixes two problems. I just set all my lists of this nature to the "normal" statuses of Open, In Progress, Closed and then I ONLY use Statuses to close tasks, ignoring them for everything else. This is not ideal and I've submitted multiple issues/ideas on this topic to the staff, but for now you asked for a workaround 😉

Matthew Burt: Cool. Really nice of you to take the time to explain that so clearly and thoroughly. I will have to redo about forty million automations, but might be worth it. Thanks!
Matthew Burt
Michele Lax: No problem :). I do want to inform you that ClickUp is working on making Custom Task Types have their own independent statuses. It will allow for tasks to have different statuses on the same list or subtasks to have different statuses than parent. This, of course, doesn't fix the issue of needing to track different statuses on different lists for the same "task". But it's at least a step in the right direction.

I see this was requested nearly 3 years ago and I'm hoping it's coming soon. This is a feature I used all the time when I was with Asana and not having it with CU has become a problem.

Changing Task Status "On Demand".

Already confirmed with Chat Support that there's no current native way to apply 2 different sets of Statuses for Tasks included in just one List.
My current workaround is to "add" the Tasks I want to "adopt" a different set of Status (vs the current List it's on) to a 2nd List that has the Status I want for said Tasks > Then "move" it there to force it to "adopt" said preferred status > then "move" it back to the original List it was on from the start.
Cheers

Really need this. I assume it's an architecture issue but hoping a solution can be found. I'm confused as to the purpose of "Tasks in Multiple Lists" if the ability to assign different statuses per list the task is in isn't enabled. Ideally it would be a toggle, because in some use cases, yes, it's nice to have tasks move along their statuses in both lists at the same time without having to make multiple clicks. (ClickUp team feel free to reach out to me if you would like me to share specific use cases in my business and how they might apply to both ways of handling statuses of tasks in multiple lists.)
