Custom Fields for List, Folder, or Space

We organize our clients by folder (i.e. client a), and then client projects as lists (i.e. client a's website). There is no way to group or sort by a list unless you use the default status grouping, but that forces you into lots of other viewing features that I don't want. I'd just love to see everything overdue, sorted by folder or list.

Here's what's landing:
1) List Fields
You can now see and set List Fields directly on the list header. Think of it as your project-level control panel: set a project status dropdown, track budget with a money field, all right there at the top of your list without opening a separate view. List Fields created at Space or Folder level flow down to child lists automatically.
2) The New Portfolio Card (Biz and above):
This is where List Fields really shine. The Portfolio with Custom Fields card gives you a portfolio-like view of all your lists with their List Fields, right on your Dashboard or Location Overview.

Project/List Metadata, Tags and Views/Reports

At a Project/List level, it would be powerful to be able to have tags, extend the metadata, and allow for reporting.
Some context -> We use Lists to organise our projects, rather than the ClickUp Project primitive, mainly because we have a lot of projects (but the same ask here would apply if we used Project for our projects). As a manager overseeing many projects across many applications and functions, it has proved tricky to provide an overview at a more coarse level than tasks. In particular, I would like to understand and socialise to the rest of the management team the in-flight and completed projects and perhaps some detail on their status and number of outstanding tasks. The workaround has been to place a project_tracker task (tagged as project_tracker and sharing the name of the list) within the list, apply a status to this project_tracker task, and then filter for these tasks at the Team level. Closed projects (lists we've archived) are a bit more tricky to follow. In any case, having the ability to place tags and fill out metadata (status, start_date, end_date, etc.) would certainly make my life a little better.

If we had an area to write info about the project/client and add custom fields that can be seen from all list or task items. They would not be related to tasks but more to the overall project.

It would be useful to be able to create fields on lists to define the properties/attributes of the project, program or relationship they represent, just as can be done for the individual tasks that the lists contain.
A couple examples:
- For a list representing a program or project, indicate the type of project, owner, status, etc.
- For a list representing a relationship indicate the relationship owner, priority/service level, status of relationship, etc.

Hemant Kumar What a pity! A so much anticipated feature crippled.
List field's main task should be to filter lists that i can then apply a task filter.
Using the beta i have access to this is not happenning. List fileds are not part of the search in space or any level.
For example:
We all share pretty much the same setup.
Space -> Special project type
Folder -> Client
List -> project
We needed the List field for example to filter the lists to then seach the tasks in the list result set.
Suppose we have a list custom field in the Space level "Priority" which is dropdown.
I want my users to create a filter for all list field "Priority=high" ,
Then a nested filter for some task in the list result set.
Or even further. I want my users to create a filter for all list field "Priority=high" and "active=True" to get all the lists under a space (or everything) and ask for tasks.
Instead of this we have the dashboard with lists that have a custom field and we can filter them by these custom fields.
And then? Nothing.
Just sort, group by or at the next iteration have sums.
To much for nothing i would say and i would love to be wrong!
If not you have spent so much time for a killer feature and you just brought a filter for lists and not a powerful feature that would help us to eliminate our pain to populate a custom field across all tasks of a list to just have this feature!
How can i search under a space for all lists that are active ("active=true") and then search for all tasks that have status "in progress" ?
I still cant!
So basic!
Finally is Clickup for professionals or just a toy that sums up list fields and you cant even create a filter for lists to operate on?
It is a pity but you've missed the whole feedback the community has given you about the most common setup we use and its BASIC needs (and i dont mean just me).

- Pin custom fields in list header: We want to be able to see important fields instantly rather than having to click the tiny list fields icon.
- API support for list fields on relevant list endpoints

We are a heavily project-focused company. Although we like ClickUp, I am migrating this year to another service that has this feature. Surprisingly, many alternatives already offer it.
But I cannot believe this request has only 37 votes! Is there another similar request with more votes?

Hemant Kumar The demo again shows that all the action is taken in the dashboard. I do not know why is this. I hope its just demo.
So the list can have custom fields. Is that right?
And we can see them at the list level.
(At the end i spotted a lense and + sign. Does that mean that i can define it there?)
So if everything goes well:
1- Can i build a filter at Everything or space level and use List Custom fields?
eg i have lists that are in state PAUSE, CANCEL etc. I want all the tasks in the lists that do not belong in this status. This is TRUE buisness value not the display.
2- Will this be part of the API?
2.1 Views (very important)
2.2 update list custom field (very important too, beacuse of automations)

- I'm wondering if the location info card will also get some needed improvements, where we can actually see those new custom fields.
- As others, I'm also wondering if we'll be able to use list custom fields in the automations - NOT by AI, in the actual automations...

- Will there be a list view (outside dashboards) on folder/space level that will show lists with custom fields?
- Nice to have feature: “List type” similar to “task type” and link the custom fields to that “list type” instead of location. Use case: Not all lists are projects, certain list custom fields are only required for lists that are projects.
- Will it be possible to have “rollup” custom fields for lists? Use case different work packages in the list have a budget, time estimate, time tracked, expected profit output, etc. On the list custom field it would be great to see the sum, average, min/max of those task custom fields.
- Will it be possible to use existing dashboard cards to summarize lists/folders? E.g. number card: Showing total number of projects (=lists) that are “On Track” (list custom field). Bar chart: Showing number of projects (=lists) by department (=list custom field). Line chart: Number of risk level = high projects over time.

Hemant Kumar, this is looking good. Our projects are big and we use lists as the main container for them. Because lists can't have custom fields we have been creating a top level task that contains the necessary custom field values and then under that all of the subtasks for the work to actually get done. This could be a big game changer for us. Some observations from my point of view:
- It makes sense that you can update the values from the portfolio card in a dashboard, but most custom field updates for my organization probably wouldn't happen there as it's not a part of their workflow. Most people are accustomed to going to the list location itself. You demonstrated this ability in the video. My feedback for this point is the display at the list location could be greatly improved. It would be better if a bigger window appeared for all of the fields.
If I'm being honest, what we could really use is the ability to create a 'form' type experience using these custom fields for lists. What I mean by that is be able to organize the fields as though they look like they are on a form. We would need the ability to be able to move them around on the 'form'. This would greatly improve how data from the custom fields are read. Instead of having them linearly in one long list (and usually out of order) the data could be presented in a much more visually appealing way that doesn't feel so cluttered and close together.
- I couldn't tell from the video, but what are all of the custom fields that are available? We would need almost all custom fields available on tasks to also be available on lists.
- Will this also include fields like Estimated Time or Duration?
- Probably outside the scope of this project currently, but somethings that would make this much more useful would be:
a. Be able to convert a task into a list and keep all custom field data
b. Automations for lists.
c. Charts on dashboards based on custom field data for lists.
There are so many possibilities that this could go once it's implemented. It's exciting to see the progress!

Hemant Kumar Thanks for this update—I can't wait to get this feature! It will solve a real organizational problem. I know there’s still work to be done, but it might be useful to be able to view the list’s custom fields in a dedicated view (like Gantt, Document, etc.)—a bit like a form. This would make it easier and faster to read information related to orders, projects, clients, etc., and would serve as an information hub.

Seeing the custom fields on list header is great. It would be even better to be able to pin certain fields to the header, so we see the value immediately instead of having to click on the icon (e.g. for project budget).
API access to list custom fields and the ability to see/edit them is also important, since we will need to rollup or calculate with those values.
