Custom Descriptions/Names for Automations
complete
Casey Gould
I recently received an email that there was an issue with my automation: When task created, change watchers, and post comment.
The problem is that I have a dozen automations with this same pattern. Editing and navigating them is difficult when the descriptions are all identical.
Allow me to "name" an automation so that I can more easily manage them and get more specific alerts when something goes wrong.

Would be nice to be able to name the automation while editing it as there's very little indication from outside the automation as to what it is. That's the whole reason behind naming the automation. So now if you don't name it right after creation and you create a few more, you have to go into each one to find out what it does then name it. From the picture you can see that it would get a bit interesting when you have a number of automations doing almost the same thing.

We've made it easy to identify each Automation!
Now, you can add a description to any Automation created in your Workspace! Just hover over an Automation in the Manage tab to create or edit a description. You can even see the person who last updated the Automation along with the date and time of the edits 🚀

There would be fewer automations in the list if the automations were more powerful. If I have a label field with 5 labels and I want the automation to trigger when one specific label is selected (the other labels are irrelevant for this automation), I have to create an automation for each permutations of the labels since it will not trigger unless all of the labels in the automation are present. There are 120 possible permutations of these five labels. I should not have to create multiple automations to accomplish this simple task.

Garrett Munroe: I agree with you that I'd love to be able to implement more complex logic, but that sounds like it might be a separate feature request to me.

Can we add a feature to label our automations.

I have 20+ automations for a workflow that I have, but if I need to go in and tweak a particular one, I have to click through the entire list until I find the right one because there is no way to distinguish them from the automation menu.

Love to see this in progress! It will also help now that my team has learned to add and edit automations - we're starting to get duplicates.

Yes! Also, please be more specific when you email "Oops! There’s a problem with one of your automations" It's never clear what the actual problem is.

Nicole Lane: Always get lost, as to what the problem is with my automation when I receive these emails. Even some sort of generalised comment as to what when wrong?

Brendan W: Is there any chance that you'll release desriptions any time soon? I have a project with huge amount of automations and when any update is needed, it's a nightmare...
