CU2.0. Docs V2 suggestions
Muazam Rafique
Docs V2 has some nice improvements. Great!
Here are some things for consideration:
- Create a task from docs:
- When a task is created from a word/sentence in a document, the created task card should make reference to the document that it was 'made from'.
- Documents view:
- it would be great if there was the option to see the documents in a list view as an alternative to the grid view.
- currently, all the documents from across the space are shown on view in a grid display. Many of the pages have the same title (e.g. project wiki). If I want to search for a document, from a particular folder, using the document view - it looks like this can't be done easily. I can only search for a word from the document title or page title.
- search: It looks like I can't search the contents of the documents either. Can we have a more advanced search features please. However, I noticed that it is possible to search within the pages using the general search bar (although this isn't always reliable).
- sort: We only have the option to sort by updated/viewed. It would be good if we had more options (e.g. name, space, project, labels, etc).
- Page editor:
- can we have the option to make the text fill the width of the page. On a regular desktop display, the text is located in the central part of the page.
- when we click on a word, we are provided with a pop up with options. It doesn't seem possible to use keystrokes to perform a command - e.g. add a comment. Can we have this option please.
- when a comment is added to text on the page, a little speech bubble appears. However, if I make that comment an assigned comment - the speech bubble remains. It would be good if the assignment comment icon was shown instead.
- Permissions:
- it looks like it is not possible to control who has access to a particular document/page within the document. Could we have this please.
Thanks as always

Zeb It would be good if we could see the people who are looking at a particular document in the same way we can see the watchers of a particular task card.
Also, it would be good if we could see a list of whose viewed a particular page, and last view date.

A list view with lots of metadata and sorting and filtering, in Doc-home is important because:
You can only share whole document (not pages) to a place. That encourages you to make many small (with few pages) documents - especially if you are in a situation where you have different information to share in many different places.

Hope that the document has a more free layout method. Like Notion

+1 to most of these suggestions
Especially 2nd item in section 2: the reuse of Document title as Tab-text, when a document is shared to a place: You either end up with a bunch of documents with the same title ("Project Wiki") or a tab text that is not very informative if you name the document after the project it belongs to
Other problem when reusing Document title on tab text is that tab-text is quite short, making it necessary to concentrate all information of a document title in the first 5 - 10 characters.
I would suggest NOT to reuse Document title as tab-text, when sharing a document to a location
Document title should also be shown more prominently in the document view (currently only in the upper left corner in a lesser font than page title). Document title should be shown at the top of the document in a way that visualises it's hierarchical placement relative to page title (above), and it should also be shown at the top of the left column with the page titles

A lot of great ideas here! Some of those we already have planned but others we can scope out to see what it will take to get in! Thanks for sharing Muazam 🙂

All great suggestions!
I have a feature request for a list view here:

Good feedback Muazam Rafique
Here's a bit more food for thought:
I would love to hear your thoughts Zeb
- Docs Home View
- A list view would definitely be helpful
- The current grid view is difficult to navigate
- Having a preview of the content of the page isn't really helpful, especially with the formatting removed
- It would be much more helpful to simply have the title of the Doc as well as a brief description of the Doc (character limited so that it would fit your grid view layout). This description would be an addition to the title of the doc, and not part of the content of the doc.
- Adding additional sorting options is really important. The current options of 'date viewed' and 'date updated' is very limiting, and isn't very helpful for traditional Wikis. Being able to have control over how you order your Docs would be best (alphabetical is a great start).
- A list view of the Docs with the Title and Description would be excellent
- Assigned comments are currently really hard to find if you have many pages in a Doc. It would be great if you could click on the comments bubble, and quickly navigate to a specific comment.
- Folders would be helpful to create a deeper file structure on the Docs home view
- Docs Modal
- It would be great if the modal was fullscreen, and the comments appeared on the right hand side of the page instead of another modal. It would be much better to take advantage of the screen real estate rather than modals on top of modals.
Thank you for this great update!
I can't wait to see how it evolves!
