Allowing multiple pop-up windows seems to be a great solution here. This would allow us to navigate to and open a list and use the chat function. Then have a feature to allow us to see and interact with the navigation screen similar to a Microsoft Outlook email product. We could then select another item in a new screen or not from the navigation screen.
