Support Guests Within Chat

As a retailer using clickup for management only, we have a few business plus accounts and lots of options to add guests. Most retail staff do not need clickup as it is overkill for their purposes, so we use the free version of Slack for quick communications. It would be great if we could get all of them into using clickup chat instead and thus ease them slowly into seeing the advantages of it for other purposes.

Hey, everyone!
We're happy to share that guests now have access to ClickUp Chat!
Guests can use Chats tied to locations shared with them, as well as Chats not tied to locations that you give them access to.
Guests can also DM users they have access to from those shared locations, and we're working on some more exciting things for guest roles later this year and into the new year!

Hi, Brendan W , just checking if there’s any update on this request since the recent post was merged.
Guests with chat-only access are currently marked as view-only, so they can’t send messages.
It would be really helpful if guests could participate in chat without needing access to tasks.

view-only guests, as in guests who only have items shared with them at the "view-only" permission, cannot send messages.
Any other guest, can send Chat messages!

It seems currently a guest must be following at least one task or they are marked as "view-only" and cannot use chat. Sometimes someone has a smaller role and just needs to be in the chat on a project and not see the task itself.

Please make it possible to have Chats with Guests. When I invite a client as a guest to the project, it would be useful to have Chat available. We could exchange Comments in the Task, but Chat would be very useful.

Tim Jasper A fully view-only/read-only guest (as in, they only have permissions of view-only to any object in ClickUp) is able to access Chat but is not able to send message.

We were looking to replace multiple platforms that we use with clients and project management. Basecamp is one of the big ones we were going to replace and ClickUp shows that they are comparable. But I have found that Guests cannot chat or send discussions for workspaces and/or folders they are invited to. This is a big deal breaker and does not make it comparable to Basecamp. We create "Client Portals" with clients for discussions, wants, needs, and just providing info but not for a specific task.
We need to be able to do discussions with our clients as guests like we do with Basecamp and not have to pay extra for chats/discussions with them.

Brendan W I am working on trying to get my agency to try using chat. One concern they had was using chat for guests. It is great to hear that guests can now access chat to spaces they are invited to. However, the concern now is that someone could accidentally send a direct or group message to a guest when they mean to message an internal employee. Can we make it so guests cannot be direct messaged? That way they only have access to the chats at the folder level and nobody will send a chat to a guest by mistake

We need to chat with clients and other freelancers/subcontractors that are part of a project. All these users are guests and currently we can’t implement chat because we still need to include all these stakeholders using other platforms.
