Hey everyone!
Closing this Feature Request. We've learned a lot from the feedback shared here and believe everything has a separate and specific post already created.
Thank you for understanding

Custom Automation Notifications/Emails. So for example if we set up an approval workflows and automate the assignee to change when the status changes from one approver to the next, we would be able to include verbiage in that notification email to the new assignee (i.e., this task has been assigned to you, please review and check the "Approved" checkbox once approved).

- Like-Custom Field Matching: right now if i create a new task with info from another list (or whatever) I can only do, for example, drop-down to Text field vs drop-down to drop down (match).
- Assigned/people fields should work together. For example, if i have a person in a people field i should be able to assign to that people field.
- Automation with linking/relationship when creating a new task based on a trigger from another task.

I really, really need ClickUp to add feedback to the Automation UI. There are so many times we’re building automations and have the Save button greyed out without any idea of what needs to be changed in order to make the automation gods happy in order to allow us to save the automation.
It’d be soooo helpful to have some feedback that tells you what needs to be fixed in order to save.

Michael Rosenberg: great call out. Noted!

Hey all! We spent some off hours time cleaning up the experience a bit (should be hitting your Workspaces in a week or two). We'll continue to improve the look and feel until it's delightful to use!

Hey everyone!
Thank you for all the posts here. I hope that most of everything mentioned has been covered in a separate automation canny post by now. If there is something we're missing, please let me know!
Instead of just closing out this post, I wanted to use it as a place where we could collaborate together and I could provide updates on things that aren't directly connected to a single feature request.
So, first up I'd like to share some early designs of SOME of the updates we're looking to make to the current Automations Manager experience and get your feedback.
- Add an "Automation title" field that you would name while creating automations.
- Improve the way our dynamic automation names show (ex: When status changes from in progress to closed...)
- General UI/visual touch ups
Take a look here:
Looking forward to building an amazing automations experience!

Hi Zach, thanks for the update. Looking great so far!!
You should do ALMOST EXACTLY the same with Custom fields:
Title: what you would like (as an admin) to call the custom field
Display name: Name that actually appears in the task
Description: some details
Plus: you should add tags. Always useful.

Looks good, We use descriptions because it really hard to tell what is going on. On one list we have over 62 automations, so this would be really helpful
We would really like a method to get a log of where our automations are being used and where they are failing
Amir Gur
Zach - ClickUp: This looks great. If you could use the auto-description as text for the title by default instead of "Untitled" I think it can also save a log of time.

Yeah just for automations. When we added the color, it was overwhelming on the eyes. But we won't update everywhere.
Elie audit logs are on our roadmap!

Thanks Zach - ClickUp: Your ideas are great,
The only call out I would make is ensuring that sometimes when inside custom fields in automations. You can not find all custom fields for automations. If they arent technically in the specific folder or space.
Right now its a little bit clunky with co integration of the Custom Field Manager. I know its still being built out. But it makes it challenging to not having the ability to cross reference a field. Its than taking you away from the automations manager to try to figure out why certain custom fields arent showing.
Your mindset and others you have faced with other environments is exactly spot on. I cant wait to see these changes with the trail of automation actions.
I would also down the line would love to see an audit log or ability to restore a previous modification. If we were going over the top for accountability / restoration. Audit log though would be enough to know what happened.
Thanks again for your amazing work and contributions to the product.

Zach - ClickUp: Hi, I have to share a significant issue I'm dealing with on a daily basis. As you work more and more with automations you start loosing track of which automations is where, what is it doing and whether it's active or not.
It'd be great to have an automation library manager to tell us which automation is active (or not) and at what level of the workspace. This is especially important in cases where you duplicate an automation to a new location and you want to get an overview telling you which automation is working and where (the same automation which was duplicated is in fact active in different location in the workspace).
Another major request is controlling the order of automations. At the moment, once a specific trigger triggers more than 1 automation, the order cannot be determined.

PLEASE ALLOW SCRIPTING BY THE USER. Automations are great but functionality is too restrictive. For example, it is not possible to have an action on the child task when the parent is modified. Other Project Management SW have built in automations that can be exported as code (javascript,..), The user can modify that code and build his own custom Automation (I mean within Clickup, not an API).
Thanks!
Carson
Germán Prieto: Check out using N8N with ClickUp if you haven't already. It's not a native solution, but it does allow you to integrate JS code into your automation flow

Carson: ok, thanks!

Germán Prieto: Is this what you're going for? https://clickup.canny.io/feature-requests/p/scripts-for-automation
I think customizing automations would be awesome. Could even be added into a Community Templates center for those who don't know how to code (such as myself lol)

One big disadvantage of ClickUp automations as they are now is inability to work with copying values of text, e-mail and other fields excepting text fields. So you can't populate many important custom fields without working by hand while auto-creating new tasks for other depts or other projects...

It would be great if we could add slack forh alerts by an automation.
ex: if someone completed a task but it doesnt have all the necesary information, send a slack with a costum msg.
Also we need de sprint spoints as an option in the automation
Michael
I almost created a new post for this but then I saw this one. .
It would be pretty helpful to have Automation Warnings - so when we take an action that will trigger an automation we get a little popup dialog that says "Hey! doing this will trigger an automation that does X, Y, & Z. Are you sure you want to do this?" or some such blurb.
That way we don't trigger things might not necessarily want to. Maybe it could be an on/off toggle in settings.
