AI billing per user
not on the roadmap
Nikita Kozhemiakin
Currently, there's no option to enable AI tools for specific users only, and some users might not need this feature at all. Please consider introducing a feature similar to GitHub Copilot integration: the organization is billed monthly for the number of seats selected for given users.

Hey Everyone, we appreciate the continued feedback around this request, and we understand how a wall-to-wall AI add-on can make it tough to justify a big upfront commitment. We're soon moving model where AI is included for everyone on your core plan (with some free usage), and any additional spend is tied to extra usage rather than access. You might have all users using AI or just one or two AI power users - either way your spend will be tied to value. Let us know if you have any feedback on this new approach to AI billing.
That said, I'm going to mark this request ask for "AI billing for specific users" as not on the roadmap.

Hey everyone, we're exploring changes to AI pricing, and we'd love your input on how it should work for teams! We're opening up sessions to share some mockups and get your feedback.
For this round, we're looking to talk to people who have 5 or more users in their workspace. If that's you, please grab a time to chat.
Slots will be limited to the first 8 that sign up. If you're still interested in giving feedback and there are no more available slots, don't worry - we'll be reaching out for more feedback very soon!
Franziska Tryzna
Anthony Raad I'd love to chat, sadly timezone says no. The earliest slot is 8pm local time for us. If there's a possibility to send in a short text with our use case or wish going forward in this matter, I will gladly write something up.
Michał Mrzygłocki
Anthony Raad, I'm a bit busy to make it for a chat, and I already had one during The Table event. Anyway, please just allow us to distinguish that you can have a regular account with your current plan and an AI add-on, like Google does with Google Workspace. You may have within one company a Business Starter and Enterprise Edition license, and you decide per user.
Susan Sloan
Anthony Raad I think the needs are very clear for us and don't really require further discussion:
- Ideally the ability to only pay per specific user.
- At minimum the ability to block specific users from interacting with it.
That's it - anything else is a dealbreaker for us.

I'd love to chat also, but I see no available slots at all.
I have 7 members and 62 guests.

any timeline for this Anthony Raad? I'd love to pay for ClickUp Brain, but I'm the only person on my plan that would use it at all. Some way to pay for Brain without paying for 4X what I need would... make sense?

This feature would be great, please catch up!

How this is still not of the roadmap ? Seems such a basic feature, I would have happily given Clickup my money but due this I have to give it to Anthropic and automate the same things using Claude Cowork and N8n, This is so frustating

Jobpro
Yeah. Very frustrating! Not all users need the same tools!

Rajiv Tirumalareddy Will it allow us to control it so certain users can not go over the free allotment if we want? Or will we be able to set some type of budgeting?

This needs to be an add on feature per user, which the option to turn it off completely. With as hot topic as AI is and some organization not allowing it at all, rolling it as a feature required for some levels, even free, is a risk. I need the ability to have this off for certain users, and turn it on for others at certain levels, or I will not be able to use it. That's money out of your pocket. Why this can't be done and one quickly is so odd to me. Just enable it. You already have the technology there with the add on feature for some of the customizable options with the AI add ons. Just enhance it further.
Michał Mrzygłocki
Please just make using AI as a user right and don't limit this to enterprise or the higest plans. If you will allow us to moderate who can use AI, peope will nautral start using it and work faster. I'm business owner I want to control who is using the AI tokens as I'm the one paying the bill.

Fabian Wenninger I would also like to know what the timeframe for this pricing update is. Rajiv Tirumalareddy do you have any idea?

Rajiv TirumalareddyHI, what is crucial is that some people should not be able to use the AI. So the option should not be available to them. Esspecials in Enterprices because of legal and all the risks impacting this. You cant tell 1000+ people to not touch that button, the button should not be available for them.

Rajiv Tirumalareddy Can you elaborate on "soon"... ?
Shams
Rajiv Tirumalareddy , appreciate the update, but usage-based billing and per user seat control solve different problems. This thread has been asking for governance.... knowing exactly who has AI access and paying only for those seats. Usage based billing doesn't answer that.
and putting this away from the roadmap while the core need remains unaddressed feels premature. i really don't know why the main request is being ignored for over two years.
Guy Mannerings
Rajiv Tirumalareddy While I do appreciate usage-based billing as an option for others, are you still going to have the "Unlimited" option for a set price? Many people have already signed up for that, gotten used to it, built it in to systems, etc. To take that away would be very annoying.
I realistically would be paying FAR less on usage-based billing (as I don't actually use AI that much as a solo user), but I prefer the certainty of a cap with the unlimited option, so I know I will not pay more than that per month. It means I don't have to worry about spend every time I use it, even though I realistically use far less than the amount I am currently paying for the unlimited AI add-on. But then those odd one-off months where I do use it a lot, I don't have to worry either.
I think if I had a usage-based option, I probably wouldn't use it at all, just because I don't like the uncertainty of it.
Again, I almost certainly would pay less on a usage-based model, but I much prefer paying a set amount for Unlimited, just for those odd times where I do use it a lot, even though it costs me more in the long-run.
So please keep an Unlimited option, like we have had for, like, 2 years. Then have usage-based billing as an option, too, for those that want it. 🙏🙏
(Also, if you move to a fully credits-based system, any unused credits really should roll over in to future months, indefinitely. Right now, it's desperately unfair that I pay for AI Super Agent credits I don't use much in one month, but those credits do not roll over in to the next month where I might want to use more than one normal month of credits allows. Taken as an average, the months' uses would be the same, but I am getting punished for not using the same amount each month. I have already paid for those credits, so they should roll over indefinitely.)
