needed:Choose what time a Task should show on calendar if no Start Time is set.
Right now, ClickUp does not do the same as Gcal, even though it's meant to mimic Gcal.
If you have a Task with no Start Time but only a Due Time, Gcal will make the Start Time the same as the Due Time, and bump it back 1 hour. ClickUp will make the Task Start earlier than the Due Time. So the two exact opposites.
To me, the Gcal method is preferred. Why?:
- ClickUp pushes you to enter Due Time EVERYWHERE.
When you create a Task, it defaults to Due Date. Certain features don't play nicely with Start Date. Some things only work with Due Date. Due Date is forced first in certain views. Etc etc etc.
Then the horrible Start/Due Date/Time picker will actively erase any Start Times you have set if you enter a Due Time, meaning you have to enter it again. The horrible Start/Due Date/Time picker will jump to Due Date if you enter a Start Date. So many problems with that picker, which destroy Start Date/Time usage.
ClickUp also erroneously treats Due Date the same as DO date (which is a huge problem in and of itself), meaning you have to use it to get the Task to expose in certain features/areas.
So we are pushed to use Due Date basically everywhere instead of Start Time.
That now means all your calendar entries show 1 hour earlier than they actually are in CU Planner. Meanwhile, Gcal is correct.
- If you have a meeting with no set end time, you might enter a Due Time (to make it show on certain areas properly, even though you should ideally be entering Start Time).
This will now show as starting 1 hour earlier than it actually does. = Recipe for disaster.
- A task in CU Planner with no Due Time will now visibly have 2 different times - one 1 hour earlier (the CU version) and one 1 hour later (the Gcal version).
Alternatively, of course: Make ClickUp give equal priority to Start Time and Due Time across the board, and fix the Time/Date picker experience.

Now seeing that this has changed recently to put Tasks with Due Time and no Start Time in the All Day area instead of in any time slot - Now they get lost completely, as they are in completely the wrong area.

Guy Mannerings You described the exact reason that we do not use the Google calendar sync with ClickUp. It does nothing other than make a confusing mess. We spend more time trying to untangle why tasks ended up on the wrong days or times, or got duplicated, or went missing, than getting any work planned efficiently. So we are now using Gqueues instead for scheduling and planning tasks on our Google calendars. Partly because the CU integration doesn't work, and mostly because there is no longer a working ClickUp chrome extension that allows us to add tasks directly from other websites. Gq works perfectly with Google tools, other than the fact that we shouldn't need a middleman solution when ClickUp should do the job.

A note from the kitchen, since it has been quiet here a while.
Closed tasks no longer stay on your calendar, and task sync setup has moved into your Calendar settings rather than the App Center.
The rest of the post is planned rather than in flight: choosing which tasks sync instead of whole locations, control over the event title including dropping the 🔄 prefix and the location path, and an end to duplicate and orphaned events.
How far the filtering goes is still being decided, so if you have a strong view on which rule matters most, this thread is where we are reading. No dates from us.

Please turn that list of planned items upside down to fix the duplicate and orphaned events first!!

Google Calendar, where I can see my teammates schedule of clickup tasks, all of this sync nonsense would not be needed because we could just stay in ClickUp and not have to use Google Calendar. That's my extra 2 cents.

Angus Innes If you work with ClickUp as a solopreneur this would NOT make sense. I work with companies who only use Google Calendaring to schedule appointments. I need to be able to see into multiple calendars at the same time...

Vasil Enchev Please include a new feature in Planner with this update.
Currently, when we drag a task onto the Planner calendar, it becomes an event. I would like the option to choose whether it appears as an event or a task when placing it on a specific day and time on the calendar.
I would also like the ability to choose whether or not to display completed task, similar to the functionality available in the list calendar view.

Chip Jones I get you there Chip. My goal would be to not use Google Calendar and keep all our scheduling inside ClickUp because we'd be able to move our team to that kind of set up. But hat's why it's just an extra 2 cents, because like the one you mention, there must be many other use cases.

Vasil Enchev Biggest problem for me is it never works.
Gcal sync might work for 2-3 days, then break completely... For weeks or months.
Delete task -> Gcal does not remove task.
Close task -> Gcal does not remove task.
Change Task Dates/Times -> Gcal doesn't change.
Change Task name -> Gcal doesn't change.
It is so unreliable, and has been for the 2 years Planner has been out. Genuinely, it's probably worked for less than 5% of that time for me.
Planner should not have been built around Gcal - it should be ClickUp native, so that if anything changes on Google's end code-wise, it does not affect CU Planner.

Please add also an option to filter which tasks sync or not. I need to sync ONLY tasks, that have start AND end dates/times, nothing else.
For me a task which have a start and end date is an event, which belongs to calendar. Other tasks for me belong to clickup and task lists.
Also what others said:
- changing the name so not everyone sees the location/pathway of the task would be so helpful
- if a task is deleted, deleting it from the calendar would be helpful.

Two of those are not built and one is partly there. Today you can narrow a sync to only the tasks assigned to you, and closed tasks stay off your calendar. Filtering by dates or type, control over the event title, and removing the event when the task goes away are all in the work the team is on.
Which one would cover you if only one landed first: only tasks with a start and an end, only these lists, or only this task type? 🙂

Our firm wants to have an event be attached to a particular "list" and for it to show up in that list on the list view and calendar view. I know "relationships" exist and you can link a doc or task but I want to see the event solely in the list calendar and on the calendar of whoever is invited to the event in the planner view.
