Hi everyone! Stepping in for Zach here while he's out of office. Super excited to share that using Formula Fields in Automations is now LIVE in all Workspaces! Please check it out and let us know what you think - we can't wait for you to get your hands on it!

Hi, I didn't find this field in automation, can you provide a screenshot please?
Jarod McPherson
Jeremy same... :(
Zach - ClickUp
Jeremy Jarod McPherson it's under "custom field" so here's an example of it as a condition
Guy Mannerings
Zach - ClickUp Caroline Ginty For clarity, can this be used for formula fields that update in the background without any manual intervention?
E.g., formula fields based on things like TODAY().
So if a formula field changes in the background based on a calculation including TODAY(), and that formula reaches a certain number, will the automation run?
Or will it always need a manual update?
I only see options for "when task created" or "when task updated", but I am unclear if "when updated" includes when a formula field automatically changes in the background by itself like in my scenario above.
Paul C
Guy Mannerings Same here, using a formula AS A TRIGGER it doesn't work, nothing is triggered really, even if the result of formula is changing.
Personal theory: I guess this is because no action is created when the formula field changes (you can't see it in "actions" on the right) so this is why Clickup doesn't really know when a formula field is changing.
Caroline Ginty could you confirm that Formulas cannot be used as atrigger?

Oh wow, will check it out!!! Thank you!

Maggie Weinreb
So if my formula produces a date, it cannot set that date as a start date or due date?
B
Bec McFarland
Maggie Weinreb I was hoping for this too... kinda makes the feature useless for me without the ability to do this.

This was so close to being great. A lot of missed opportunities though.
Formulas should be able to be used as conditions as well as triggers. ALL formula fields should be available, not just numbers..
Zach - ClickUp
Matt Langlois: It is available in Conditions. Can you check again please
Matt Langlois
Zach - ClickUp I was looking at it like I would a dashboard - expecting a "formula" heading, I was not looking within Custom Fields. Thank you for clarifying this!
Side note - Formulas in Formulas is GREAT!!! Opens up the options exponentially!
Francois Digard
For my part, I am disappointed to wait so long for a feature that does not meet my need. Indeed, the calculated fields I wanted to use are text and not numbers, and apparently it is impossible to test an initial or final value that is not a number. :-(
Elise Remissong
Love seeing this in the Automation Triggers options! When we think about this automation, however, we'd love to use it based on comparisons. For example, when Formula Field exceeds 5, or more Ambitiously, when Formula field dips below another number field

I'm facing a bug with this new feature, the automation doesn't working. It's suppose to be trigger when change the formula field 0 to 1, but nothing happens when formula field was update from 0 to 1.

Great to see devs are back on board the ass-kicking train 🚆 let’s get these 1k+ canny vote features rolling out! And also https://clickup.canny.io/feature-requests/p/ai-meeting-assistant 😁

Caroline Ginty Cool! How about the values of formulas being available in email automations? Before it was possible to add the formula as an output but it shows blank, It would remove a weird work-around my team is doing if the emails now show the value of the formula field at the point of trigger.

Caroline Ginty either I don't have this yet, or maybe I misunderstood what this request was for 😂 Can you add a screenshot?
EDIT: Found it! It's only on the "when" side.

Caroline Ginty Cool, but it's really limited in scope by only having a "from" and "to" option. Need greater/less than, is/not, etc. for this to be really useful.

Levi Bretz noticed you were referred to tech support. Any chance you got a solution to this and/or would you be willing (please!) to share more info about your weird work-around? I am after the same thing and it's bugging me the fields show up blank in automated emails...

Bec McFarland I have several open requests that haven't gotten addressed yet so I didn't take the time to open it. The new Zapier actions for clickup did allow me to do a work-around. I have a clickup automation, "When formula field changes" -> "Call webhook" and then the webhook is caught by zapier which updates a custom field to reflect the value of the formula field. I just use the regular custom field in my emails.

Caroline Ginty Thank you, I was expecting this!

Levi Bretz Bummer. Hopefully they sort this as it would be a huge help. Thank you so much for taking the time to explain. I will have a play with this and see if it supports my use case. Really appreciate you helping out!

Caroline Ginty Hi! It does not work with automatic emails - when I create the automation with the formula filed in the body of email, it look fine, but in reality it does not send this email at all - when I changed it back to number field, it worked, but not with formula field in the body of email. Can you help pls? Thank you.
