Would be really great to have this. Currently, the filter is showing my subtasks and their status. However, the parent task is always cluttering up this view, because it's "stuck" on "in progress" until all subtasks are done. I know that, I don't need to be reminded of it every time I scroll through my work items :)

I'm looking for this feature for fail safes in our system. We have a whole workflow and if someone accidentally drags a task into another one, it messes up the flow for that task. I just want to have a dashboard or a view so I can see if there are any subtasks in the list (because there shouldn't be) and I can fix it right away, rather than finding out down the line something was missed.

Adding a filter to show only parent tasks would also be great and necessary.

Something like:

If TASK Is SUBTASK
If TASK Is Not SUBTASK

Or a Custom Field formula where something like =IsParentTask could be calculated

General, temporary workaround from Layla's video:

Right-click the main root subtask ›
Copy Link
Select the tasks under your subtasks
In the mass-select action bar, select
Dependencies
Paste in the copied task URL under
Waiting on
Create a filtered View for
Dependency: Waiting on

You can create 2 filtered Views named "Ready to do" and "Waiting on" where one includes all tasks with the Waiting on Dependency, and the other without them.

Of course, filtering by subtasks would 1-up this method even further, but hopefully this helps out some folks in the meantime.

If you have a lot of project tasks with subtasks, and you want to view all open tasks, it only respects the main task status. The subtask view option (collapsed, expanded, as separate tasks) doesn't help here. This is a big problem for teams that have a lot of projects with a lot of subtasks.

I'm currently using a tag for every subtask that we create for any user, so that we can sort a list of tasks by the "Subtask" tag which takes the parent tasks from the list making the hidden from the sort. i would rather not have to add a custom tag to every subtask i create, if there was a native way that CU identifies and can sort subtasks. I love the idea of adding "Only Subtasks" as an option to the Subtasks sort pulldown!

Have the ability to see only sub-tasks. For me this is to aid in archiving closed tasks where I just want to archive closed sub-tasks quickly within a certain space.

This would be very helpful. Right now we are using a tag to filter, but we are not wanting it to be a manual thing, so we are using an automation to add the tag. But that automation isnt perfect either. Why not just add an option here for "Only Subtasks"??

I'm adding my voice to this feature request as well! I'm using a Table view to create a sequenced to-do list, and I get confused when I see the Parent Tasks because those are just headers/project names and not actionable items. I would be great to have 3 views: parents only (with icon to indicate there are subtasks), all items, and then add one for just subtasks only but have the parent name available on hover or added to the subtask name or something to that effect.
