PLEASE slow down a little bit, and take it more serious
in progress
Joó Martin
First of all: I love ClickUp. This is the best task management / productivity app I’ve ever used. And I’ve used a lot.
I’ve moved our whole company to ClickUp, which means about 50 people and 60-70 software development projects. We heavily rely on you.
I’ve chosen you over TargetProcess, Jira, OpenProject, Monday, Trello and so on… Which is a big win for you.
But!
Please take one or two month without any new features, and make the app more robust, reliable, and faster.
It feels like, every 1 change you make bring 2 more bugs in the app.
In the last few days it was very very frustrating. ClickUp was so slow, the text you were writing in the description is literally just disappeared…
And we constantly have bugs, for example:
- Sometimes we cannot create tasks normally (https://clickup.canny.io/bugs/p/cannot-create-task-error-popup-parent-not-found-code-content003, https://clickup.canny.io/bugs/p/newly-created-task-does-not-show-in-list, https://clickup.canny.io/bugs/p/tasks-disappear-when-newly-added, https://clickup.canny.io/bugs/p/not-updating-list). This is just essential stuff. I’v recorded a video months ago. Other people also reporting this bug.
- Time reporting STILL shows the WRONG numbers (https://clickup.canny.io/bugs/p/time-reporting-bug). Which should be an important feature.
- You screwed up time tracking after adding new features (https://clickup.canny.io/feature-requests/p/bring-back-the-calendar-to-time-tracker). One of the most important feature!
- You closed the bug, but automations are still unreliable (https://clickup.canny.io/bugs/p/automations-are-often-unreliable). Which a lot of people rely on.
- From one day to another custom field automations are just broken (https://clickup.canny.io/bugs/p/cannot-create-automations-for-custom-fields).
- Timesheet has arrived which was great, but it still shows the wrong hours per day (https://clickup.canny.io/bugs/p/time-sheet-wrong-hours-per-day)
- It has rounding issue (https://clickup.canny.io/bugs/p/time-sheet-rounding-error)
- We cannot export them (https://clickup.canny.io/bugs/p/time-sheet-export-bug)
So PLEASE!!!
Stop making new features every day. Fix these bugs, and make the app more reliable!
We won’t go anywhere if you don’t make 129 new features for the next 2 months. But we will, if the app constantly delivers new bugs, and strange behavior.
And last, but not least: I love ClickUp.
This is why I’m writing this.
Thank you!

Today, we released the first of many performance and speed optimizations for our front web and desktop applications.
Noticeable improvements:
- 80% of all drop downs now open instantly
- Slash commands are faster
- Sidebar: faster clicking, expanding, and loading
- List view: tasks should render faster and in a much larger quantity
- Opening task view is faster
- Drag and Drop everywhere should be less sticky and more performant
Things that may not be immediately noticed, but add to overall performance:
- Dropped ~15MB from bundle size
- Many memory leaks fixed (if you feel like ClickUp gets slow after leaving it open for a long time, this may fix your issue)
- 1K dom in App shell
- Reflow fixes
We have many other performance improvements (for example, opening task view instantly) that are very close to being released but we could not release them today as we weren't 100% confident in them not causing issues yet. This is just the first of many releases that will begin happening every two weeks from here on out.
Additionally, we'll be releasing backend performance optimizations in March that make things like loading notifications (and anything that waits for a request) much quicker.
Thanks everyone for your support, we won't stop improving 💜

@Zeb: It's good of you to list all the bugs you have fixed and new features you introduced. But do you want me to list the new bugs you have introduced again with this update? The broken functionalities which were working very well before?
The Recur feature is broken again, now it doesn't work at all (neither on mobile app nor on the web app) and I am facing the issue since this morning only and this is the main point of this thread that when you release new features and fix bugs please don't break existing features.
It's pretty much like some municipality work, they would dig the roads every now and then just because they don't have any new work to do, so why not mess up the working things and then fix those and show the progress that we fixed all so and so thing.

Thank you for your post. I am looking at converting my company to ClickUp, and I see a great deal of potential in the software.
That said, reliability and data integrity are the MOST important things for a business software like this. The constant influx of bugs is what is keeping me from converting my team to this software. I do not want to strain my team with the conversion just to have the software frustrate them and cause problems.
I fear ClickUp might go the way of many other great ideas and die out due to issues with execution. Please prioritize reliability.

New user as a business owner and I just spent many hours learning how to use CU from tutorials. HOWEVER I am creating lists (tasks) and they are not showing up under any of the views, including "Everything", and not even in some of the Space views they were created in! It also seems to be deleting tasks from the views or showing only 1 or 2 completely arbitrary ones. So CU, sorry but I'm done here- moving on. If I keep experiencing frustration with such basic scheduling/organizational needs it's unfortunately just not worth my time. It's brutal to have already wasted so much of my billable time on this.
Frank Arnold
@Heather MacLeod: There is a bug when tasks have been set to a non-existent status (e.g. by an automation or a recurring task with status update). This error has been confirmed by support... Maybe it has something to do with your problem (I myself had the problem that I couldn't find tasks anywhere after I marked them as "done" and the status was set to a non-existent one).
Heather MacLeod
@Frank Arnold: Hi Frank and thanks so much for your weigh-in. Despite googling I can't seem to find out how to change a status within the task to set it to a particular status (I can only drag it to change the status IF I'm lucky enough to have it appear on the board view- and the trouble is - they're just not appearing), so I'm not sure there.
I did find out that some people like myself are seeing glitches if they have set the project flow statuses to have custom wording, so that might be the issue as well. Obviously it's nice to have custom wording and so I don't really know what to do. It's been a frustrating ride so far. If it works it has fantastic features, but otherwise I think I'm headed off to use a different program... wish it weren't so, but there we go. Maybe I'll check back with Clickup in a year to see if bugs are fixed and migrate back over to it.
Frank Arnold
@Heather MacLeod: We can't sugarcoat it, ClickUp has a lot of bugs and performance issues... that's why this thread exists.
I'll look at it over the next few months and then consider renewing my subscription. If it doesn't get better, I will switch again and then test ClickUp again in 1-2 years.

Sadly, I have to agree with this.
ClickUp seems to have become MORE buggy over the last few weeks, rather than less.
Recently, I am submitting around 2 bugs every day, usually with videos or screenshots. It's becoming quite a distraction, now, and quite time-consuming, but I want ClickUp to work really well, so I do it.
I know developers need to take a look in to things, but I also constantly get responses of "we are having trouble replicating this our end" and being asked to send more info. But I have already taken the time to detail the problem, send video, send screenshots, etc. At that point, as much as I would like to help more, I just don't have the time to keep sending more info, and I don't always feel comfortable with developers logging into my account when I have personal information in there.
And if I have not sent a screenshot or video, it's because the bug is quite basic and clear from the bug description. I shouldn't have to send a screenshot or video as it should be easy to see from ClickUp's end.
I really want ClickUp to be great, so will keep submitting bugs. But I really think Bugs and making current features, views, etc, work really well should be the main priority over any substantial new features.
Yasushi SHOJI
@Guy Mannerings: I can't agree more. This "we are having trouble replicating this our end" kills my motivation to send a bug report if you see it many times.
I know bug fixing is hard but can CU do something about it? Like having a "playground" so that we can all share reproducible bugs? It'd be nice if we could easily move our tasks and folders from our workspace to the playground with randomized text to replicate the bugs we are seeing.
I'm sick of seeing new features (and bugs introduced by them) but no bug is featured in each release notes even _after_ this bug was filled (IIRC, there was only once for the release 2.69, which featured "Bug Fixes").
Love to see a new bug squashing feature to help CU fixing bugs fast.
Frank Arnold
I reported so many annoying bugs the last days. ClickUp is the most buggy platform I know about and I really think about cancelling my subscription. I also speak about the not working update of the views if data changes, which I haven't seen in such behavior with any other platform.
I think at this state CU is more a testing platform for new ideas but not ready for daily usage.
Waleed Elaghil
Hey @Frank Arnold! I've forwarded your concerns to our technical team and addressed all the bugs you're facing 🙂
We're also focusing all our efforts in speed and performance to make ClickUp lighting fast, as well as, the most reliable tool out there!
Thank you for your patience!

We really need to have the system be faster. It is frustrating the team because it takes so long to load. Any feedback?

I left CU (temporarily, I hope) for a different app. CU is unquestionably the fullest featured app but the constant stream of bugs, some of which appear to affect data integrity, scared me away.
I still check Canny bug reports daily to see if it's safe to return and I'm glad I don't rely on CU right now. I don't want to be a beta tester or document bugs every week. I must trust my data and won't until new releases are thoroughly tested and certified before they're promoted to production status.

Today system was updated. NOT Cool! Dahsboards with TimeSheet not working more.

Why can't things be simple: one inbox to quickly enter ideas or tasks. In my opinion, after entering in the ideas... we would THEN convert afterwards to a reminder, or better yet a task with a reminder; a task, doc, etc. must be a GTD conspiracy or something. Kinda reminds me of Microsoft saying they 'listen' to their customers suggestions and then do it the worst way instead. Maybe i am in the minority here.

Hey everyone! Providing an update on what we've been working on:
- Our front end speed team continued crushing through problem areas and optimizing the front end architecture. We're super excited to release these updates in February, which will make the app feel more snappier all around.
- We also continued auditing the code for memory leaks and are very confident we've found the vast majority and patched them. These updates will also be released in the same time mentioned above.
- Our backend speed team implemented new analytics and monitoring to find any slow responses - last week we started cruising through those one by one with the goal of having no slow responses when we're done. This one is a slowly but surely initiative, and these updates are released immediately as they're fixed.
- On the infrastructure side, we've continued tweaking our new infrastructure to ensure the highest availability. Last week, we had an intermittent scaling issue when new servers failed to be brought online automatically. We found that issue and patched it to prevent it from happening again in the future.
Thanks so much for your patience and support - we're non-stop working to make ClickUp incredibly reliable all around.

@Zeb: Yes, sounds good. I signed up for the unlimited the other day and was disappointed to find the mobile app not fit for purpose. It's just so counter productive and slow. People are on mobile nowadays, desktop is not as important because technology trends are significantly changing and I hope Clickup is embracing the trends and prioritising on functional requirements of it's users.
My feedback as a customer;
- Clickup has the capability to dominate market share as some of the project management/to-do apps are not that great however basic functionality needs to come first.
- Clickup must deliver to its customers fast enough as apps like notion, nimble and future SaaS start-ups will come along and take that market share.
Keep up the good work!

@Zeb: Nice to hear all this but honestly I still see that you guys are rushing into releasing features without proper unit or regression testing.
You recently released some feature upgrade to "Recurring Tasks", and since then the functionality is faulty horribly. Last time you released some upgrade to Template features and with that even more bugs were added to it and till date I am trying to figure out workarounds to it.
You guys say "save 1 day every week, but honestly I have been spending 1 extra day to figure out the bugs you guys have added with new features and how to work around them", which negates the whole purpose of having a productivity app.
For Example: I have a recurring task for "Workout" at 5:45AM to 7:15AM set to recur everyday on complete, now look at the dates after I clicked on "complete" today.
The start date and end dates are horribly wrong. All of the sudden start date is 7:45AM & end date has become 7:15AM somehow, I don't know what could be the explanation for this that the start date falls after end date.
And this is not just with this one task, all my recurring tasks are acting crazy, start date and end dates are not matching up. It was working completely fine until 2-3 days before.
Happening on the web-app as well as Mobile app(new & legacy).
So, what I hope for is that you guys properly test the functionalities and not break the existing ones which are working completely fine.
Also, I wanted to bring this to your notice that your pricing page says that with "Unlimited" plan we get unlimited storage without any "asterisk" but later while using I found out that there is a size limit of 500MB per file, which doesn't make sense. It really need to increase to at-least 5GB per file. Otherwise the whole purpose of saying unlimited storage when there are these restrictions doesn't make sense, that too when you are calling that plan literally as "UNLIMITED" plan.
I hope that this feedback is taken into consideration and things improve.

Indigo Locomotive
@Zeb: yeah the only problem, its still a mess, even if we got told all changes and will change soon. cpu crashing arount at 30% in idle, 100% if doing one single click - combined with imense loadtimes and lags for every single click.
Samuel Schneider
"And this is not just with this one task, all my recurring tasks are acting crazy, start date and end dates are not matching up. It was working completely fine until 2-3 days before."
@Piyush Aswani: Boar! I thought I was the only one with this problem. I'm actually a big fan, but these bugs and especially what you mention are ENORMOUSLY annoying. I got up today, check my tasks and find that all the repetitive tasks have been postponed.
@Zeb I really appreciate you guys working on this. But you promised that when you have new features, you'll test them beforehand. But I can't confirm that after the last update. This is sooooo annoying!!! And me steals the rather 1 day a week!
Waleed Elaghil
Hey @Omar Hussain! Thank you for this great feedback. We're definitely working on the mobile app to make it as powerful as the web app as we're releasing features every week!
Waleed Elaghil
Hey @Piyush Aswani! Thank you for this feedback. I'll definitely surface this to the team 🙂
Frank Arnold
@Piyush Aswani: Yes something is broken with the recurring tasks. I had created a recurring "Test" task.... Completion date today and weekly recurrence. These tasks was recreated multiple times automatically! I had after a few minutes about 100 of the same "Test" task with updated due date without doing anything.
The whole system is currently rather buggy
Waleed Elaghil
Hey @Indigo Locomotive! We hear you! Our team is working so hard on this and we just need time to nail it for good.
Thank you for your patience!
