List View: option to have inline Add Task open new task create modal instead of automatic add
Julie Runez
We have very detailed task templates that guide people through creating an SOP, for example, to make sure they include all of the necessary information. If they click "Add Task" at the bottom of the list, that template is bypassed and we get incomplete information. Creating a form for this information is not flexible enough. I'd essentially like to be able to use our template in lieu of a form.

Julie Runez Have you tried setting the Default Task Template for the list? Check out this Help Center article for more details on this feature, and let me know if this meets your needs: https://help.clickup.com/hc/en-us/articles/13225295700759-Set-a-default-task-template-for-Lists

Lily Chan the default task template is set for the list, the issue is that when we click "add task" at the bottom of the list, instead of opening a task with the template visible, it just adds a line item. I'll show you an example here: https://sharing.clickup.com/clip/p/t9006045646/fb2c6799-ef19-42fc-bed5-f7195488b85a/fb2c6799-ef19-42fc-bed5-f7195488b85a.webm?filename=screen-recording-2025-12-05-11%3A48.webm

Julie Runez: Thank you for sharing that Clip - this clears it up. Current behavior of the Add Task button at the bottom is that the task is created with the default template applied automatically afterwards. This is to prioritize faster task creation.
It looks like you want an option to change the behavior of how the Add Task button at the bottom of the List works. You'd like it to open a similar modal that opens when clicking Add Task at the top right so that the user can edit the task further before saving. I'll share this feedback with our Views Squad for consideration.
Thanks for your feedback!
