Import Properties and Checklists to Subtasks via CSV
Kirk Mullis
I would like to be able to import details about Subtasks via CSV, such as Time estimates, Custom field values, Checklists, etc. There is no way to bulk update this info in subtasks so being able to do so via CSV is critical to be able to take advantage of those additional details

5 years and Clickup PMs are still leaving this behind

Been playing around with ClickUp to see if it will fit my company's structure and finally decided to take the plunge and was going to get a paid subscription, until I realized subtask properties cannot be imported. Thank goodness I checked this step first before subscribing. It's mind boggling how this is not available. Can't imagine importing all the data and having to go back to each and every subtask to fill in the details manually. Feel like I wasted so much time looking into this platform.

yeah fact you cant get time estimates in and have to redo everything manually makes this a halfarse import

This is still a problem, so for my migration to Clickup, I set up my csv file to encode my original hierarchy of my folders, projects(lists), tasks, subtasks, sub-subtasks, etc, up to 7 levels deep.
Then, I wrote a code (Python Language) to process my CSV file and update my Clickup import via the API.
Thankfully, this worked, and I ended up with my nested tasks and subtasks, with full attributes, dates, descriptions, custom fields, etc., recreated.

Brian Kumahor have you shared a breakdown of this method anywhere (coding structure included)? I would find it super useful, as I'm sure others might who end up on this thread. :)

Jamie-Lynne Varney Yes, I've uploaded the code to Github. you'll need to get your Clickup api key from your account.
It is customized to how i encoded the task/subtask hierarchy in my CSV file prior to uploading into Clickup. So you'll have to adapt it to yours.
Feel free to ask me for any clarifications.
Implementation?
To implement my workaround:
- Obtain your ClickUp API key from your account settings.
- Download the Python script from my GitHub repository.
- Customize the script as needed for your specific CSV structure and desired task attributes.
- Execute the script, ensuring your CSV file is correctly formatted and accessible to the script.
- Verify the accuracy of the imported data within ClickUp.

This is still a total dealbreaker for many systems we use other softwares for. It's a huge bummer.

This is a blocker for us adopting Clickup as well. Any updates here?

This is the most important feature i guess, to have the funcitonality to upload the tasks using A CSV. We sometime might have to upload a tohousand of tasks for single project how to do that if this feature isnt available, is there any other way? Rather than mannually poulating all of the tasks and then we get to add the details mannually which is also a big hurdle.

Import Sub Tasks

Andrew Froude
When importing from CSV it is currently not possible to import Sub Task details, i.e. a Sub Task can be included within a Task when imported but only as a Sub Task Name, and if multiple Sub Tasks they need to be listed as "," separated values within the single field (cell in Excel).
This means that an imported Sub Task can not have a Start Date or End Date, or any other required detail.
If you want to import a Sub Task with Start and Due Dates they need to be imported as a Task and then selected and moved into the parent task manually.
Even if the import was specifically for Sub Tasks this would be an improvement.

This is currently a blocker for us moving to Clickup. The time it would take to manually move our tasks into subtasks from our current PM system means that the data will no longer be live by the time we manually add them all.
The lack of milestones or similar to house tasks into means that without subtasks our work will look to cluttered internally and for our clients.

I expected the
subtask
field would not just create new tasks with those titles but actually link to other imported tasks, at least where available.I think this would be incredible.
Is there any ETA on this?
