Easier way to edit names of spaces, projects, and lists

One of the things I loved about Asana (one of the few things, since I really do think you guys are doing a much better job) was how easy it was to modify the names of projects or tasks. You could literally click it and would be in edit mode. So many times I find myself trying to do this in ClickUp and then having to wait a few seconds for the task modal to load on my page. Then I wait another second or two for it to close. Then I have to click the ellipsis to modify the task, then the pencil icon. All of this simply to change the name of a task. I don't have the best answer for this (you guys are clearly awesome at this so I defer to you) but perhaps to the left of the "circle icon" on a task (where you can select a color for the task) you add the pencil there so I only need to click once to enter edit mode? The same could go for a project, except perhaps put a circle with a pencil to the left of the + sign. I would even go as far as to suggest the same thing for the delete trash can. I'd move the ellipsis to near the drop down and then add "one click functions" over to the right side. Anywho, I'm getting carried away. All I really care about is an easier way to modify the text of some of these items.

Luci N. Nice - maybe https://feedback.clickup.com/feature-requests/p/find-change could be part of it

This is THE MOST frustrating aspect of using the app and I'm considering moving away from this app for this reason. It is so inconvenient that I have to click rename to rename a task
PRM SALES
Please implement ASANA edit with click any where (in ASANA click any where & you are in edit mode) or F2 - which is windows standard. Looks like some of the niceties of ASANA are needed here too...

Couldn't we just double click to edit a name? A task name, a folder name etc? I don't believe double click does anything at the moment
Nunatic
+1, and maybe your team can learn from how omnifocus manages to do editing (especially a lot of short cuts like coomand + [, command + ])

'F2' key for rename is standard practice. Just implement that

+1! Now it's really annoying.

One other odd thing to me in Clickup, as an ex-Asana user, is the need to have 'Lists' in a project. In Asana, the lists are optional (and editable inline). In Clickup, I end up having a Project in a Team, and having to add some arbitrary list to it like 'Tasks', in order to create tasks in it.
Surely we should be able to just dump tasks in a project without having to create a list in it?

Sebastian Nemeth: I second this. As a design agency I have Client (Space) > Job (Project) > Task (Task) as a structure. The list doesn't have a place and only gets named for the sake of it.
Levi Graham
Sebastian Nemeth: I thought this exact thing until I realized their "your tasks live in lists" motto. Essentially, 'Projects' are a hierarchical term used to designate potentially multiple lists. I used to think this was weird but now I understand the design philosophy and love the flexibility it provides!

I hear you, Michael! This is planned with our new version of ClickUp UI that's being released end of the year :)

Zeb: fantastic!!

Zeb: woot! I too was having an issue with this as I am trying to switch to clickup from asana. I love what youre doing, but if you can make the simple things (like renaming) as slick and quick as asana, you will be my hero and I will fully switch!

Zeb: Its Almost Feb 2019 now but I don't see this functionality. I am right?
Zeb
Ryan Millar: 2.0 is coming, end of Winter
Hugh Howie
Zeb: I'm using 2.0. Is there an easier way to edit task names that I'm not seeing? Haven't seen a hotkey for it.
Zeb
Hugh Howie: Hey Hugh! Are you looking to edit names when you have a task open? Or do you mean a specific view?
Hugh Howie
Zeb: Hi Zeb. I meant when you're in board or list view, the ability to edit a task name on the the fly with a hotkey, w/o having to click twice and cover substantial pixel real estate to get to the rename option. thanks
Zeb
Hugh Howie: Got it, just making sure - are you aware of this button?
Zeb
Hugh Howie: We'll add this to Board view as well

Zeb:
'F2' key for rename is standard practice. Please consider to implement that
Hugh Howie
Zeb: I am, but I work most often in board view. I guess I'm just used to Trello where I can hover over a task title, hit "e" for edit and type away. Or Asana, where I can click on a title simply to edit it – that's where their separate task pane comes in really handy, but this is a UI issue for another discussion. Thanks for the response, 2.0 is looking really good!
Zeb
Hugh Howie: We'll add the rename button to board view!
Daan Vermaas
GS: I don't think we should be promoting a Microsoft proprietary Function key convention as being standard practice. I use a Mac and the use of Function keys is definitely not standard practice.
