A Shame: ClickUp can't seamlessly export/import it's own exported CSV File

We can't believe that ClickUp has less useful Support for its own paying Customers than for other Platforms Users: you do not allow us to export a ClickUp Space and seamlessly import it back into another ClickUp Workspace?
Of course, we can export/import csv Files,
but then we have a lot of manual work - and we're losing information.
Because it is for sure easier to seamlessly export/import a ClickUp Space than to integrate other platforms, it would be great if you could better support your own customers here.
Hmmm, a workaround comes to my mind:
Export the ClickUp data to asana - and then import it back from asana into ClickUp. But then, it could happen that we like asana... :-)

More than time to get some update on that core subject

Totally agree with you.
ClickUp import/export is completely useless. I recently wanted to export my free workspace onto my paid workspace and all I could import was junk data.
Zeb we really hope that you guys work on your export functionality a little more, this is one very important feature for not just ClickUp users but other ones who want to switch to ClickUp and seeing that ClickUp is not capable enough to import it's own export is very disappointing.
Kindly take this as a priority since one of your basic functionality seems to be broken badly for a long time and it's not like it's in beta or something.

Piyush Aswani: Thanks for the comment and I agree it would be awesome to revamp import and export! While we're currently focused on speed and performance, I'll bring this up to our team to see if it's something we can add in the future!

Piyush Aswani: To add to what Eric mentioned, we don't recommend exporting and importing into ClickUp like you described, but feel free to use Space templates to transfer items between Workspaces. You can also reach out to support to request a Space transfer!

Thank Brendan W: the template feature worked fine, but I still think that import/export needs to be improved.
And the worst part is that it's not something recently broken, it's been broken for almost 2 years now.
So, I am pretty sure that you guys too are aware of the fact. Is it intentional so that nobody can export and switch to some other service.
Because if you can implement a template like feature which works like a charm, but it again is something internal to ClickUp, but the very feature which gives people an option to switch out of ClickUp is broken.
I know you guys are working very hard around the clock, but again this is something which needs to be improved, as it doesn't make sense to have a broken feature which is there from the very beginning.

Hey Piyush Aswani! Thanks for your feedback on our import and export features. I can see that it would be helpful to export from one Workspace and import into another.
While you can do this with a Space transfer, I'll discuss this with my team to see what they think about this as an option! We are looking to be improving the import process later this year so this definitely aligns with that goal.

Should we say that Clickup is more or less missing its own backup file format(s) ? I dont want to have to bind CSV to tasks+ columns manually each time. A robust export/import file format would be even better.
It's probably not an easy task to build funky features while maintaining consistency in such basic stuff, but for sure this is about reliability and long term relationship.

Agree completely with the concerns shared in this discussion. I, too, was astonished when I discovered ClickUp could not simply, cleanly and directly import a CSV file created within Clickup!
Better import and export options are definitely needed, both for personal and business use.
(FWIW, this such a significant issue, I would consider this a bug rather than a missing feature.)

Agreed with above comments - this export/import experience was pretty frustrating for me. I was trying out a free account to use for my work, but now I want to move everything as a separate workspace into my paid account... lots of problems:
-Can't import sub-tasks. The export CSV has a column called "Parent ID", so if a row has null, then it's not a subtask, while if it has a series of characters, it's a subtask to the parent with that Task ID. However, the import doesn't allow you to import anything beyond a Sub-task title. My workaround was to import all subtasks as standard tasks, then bulk convert them once in... but this was very tedious, as I had ~300 subtasks pointing to many different parent tasks.
-No support for keeping folders of lists intact (aka "Project Name" in the CSV), although this is a quick fix after the import is completed, assuming you're not importing a massive number of lists with meticulous folder classifications.
-No support for keeping multiple Spaces separate (my exported workspace had content from 2 spaces, so I had to separate them in Excel and import each separately)
-No support for keeping Comments intact
-Blank content contains the value "null" in the exported CSV, but importing that data actually inserts the word "null"
Please fix these issues to make a much less painful switching process :)

Yes! Export Workspace > Import CSV = imports are completely broken. The "Project Name" field can't be matched to anything. There is "Project Name" or "Folder" in the drop down so all tasks will import outside of folders??
How Clickup not support its own CSV files?
