Set status for new recurring tasks
complete
Alvin Dziurzynski
The new recurring task functionality is much improved over the old one and its behavior is at least predictable. But there is one change that would make it better.
Be able to set the status for the recurred task. When a task recurs now it is set to a "New" status. For me "New" means a new task, not one that is recurring, so I have to go find the recurred task and change the status every time.

Zeb: Oh finally. That is so cool, thank you!
Lukas Pour
hi, is there any progress on this?
Zeb
Lukas Pour: Done finally! Thanks for your patience!

We're working on this feature now!
Alvin Dziurzynski
Zeb: Thanks. This small change will be a big time saver!
Rebecca
Zeb: Do you have an ETC for this? Keeping statuses on recurring tasks will change the way we use Clickup
Waleed Elaghil
Hey Rebecca! This can already be done using the legacy option. I've attached a Gif to show you how to do it!
But we're keeping this request open as we're also adding it to the basic recurring option 🙂

Zeb: Any updates as to when this will be done? Since the "set status" programming already exists in the legacy recurring tasks, that should be a very solid start toward migrating this functionality to the new recurring task process. This change would save me hours of non productive time a year as I have lots of recurring tasks that I constantly have to monitor the status on and change the status manually as necessary. I am not a fan of wasting time by doing things manually that can be automated fairly easily. Other than this, CU is great. I am using the new "link" tasks together to put associated tasks in a group that can be easily referenced when they are not task - subtasks, etc.

Hey Alvin Dziurzynski! This is already in our pipeline but we're just delaying some features due to our current focus on speed and performance.
Thank you for your patience!

Zeb this one is driving me nuts!!! I thought I could use legacy recurring for this, but then I can't see the upcoming future tasks in calendar view... That feature only works with the new recurring task functionality... Also no way to do this with automations, because recurring isn't a trigger.
Natalie Williams
Marcel Sala: it's driving me nuts too.

Natalie Williams: Likewise

Zeb Can this make it into the queue to be done at some point. While the dozens of new features are great (already using automation), this is the one missing feature that costs me a fair amount of time. If it is a legacy recurring task, then the recurred task status can be set. If it is the new recurring task process, then I have to remember to go to the new recurred task to set the status. I now have to put an indicator in the task title whether it is a legacy or new recurring task so I can take the appropriate action to set status (or not).
Zeb
Alvin Dziurzynski: We're thinking about this right now, and plan to add this in the next few sprints!
Alvin Dziurzynski
Zeb: Thanks very much! I know you have thousands of product enhancement requests and you can't do them all (Being an ex-programmer, I do understand). This "set status" functionality we lost with the new recurring process is actually quite useful as I deal with recurring tasks on a daily basis. Getting it back will save me minutes every day and eliminate the question is it legacy recurring or not.
Alvin Dziurzynski
Zeb: Can you consider getting this request done soon? It should be an easy add because the functionality already exists in legacy recurring. The programming logic just needs to be moved to the new recurring 2.0 and a status field added. The status can default to New unless the user changes the status.
This feature lack results in productive time loss every week and is the single most irritating thing about CU for me.
Rufus Manji
This is an absolute must-have feature: as it stands, I spend several minutes each day mindlessly clicking to set the correct status on each of my recurring tasks. Why they dropped this when it was in the old recurring task system is beyond me.
Chad DuPriest
My team's tasks require recurring statuses AND recurring start dates. As of now, neither the Legacy nor the 2.0 version allows for both. Would be awesome if 2.0 could get recurring status.
Lukas Pour
We use statuses like backlog, todo, in progress, done.
Each time a new recurring task is created (after completing the previous one) it is set to backlog. We need to set its status as todo (it is a task which needs to be done).
it was available in v1

Is there a status on this please? I can't use the recurring v2 at all just because of this simply thing :-(
All my recurring tasks have their own 'recurring' status, so they don't show up in the overview of my actual to-do's. So i cannot use recurring v2 in this system.
Tor André Sandum
This is a must. We use statuses to categorize types of recurring tasks. When all recurring tasks are set to open, it defeats the purpose. We can't reorganize every recurring task every time it's done. Then we'll just move the due date manually instead.
